Salada steps up plant modernisation as it moves towards 70 years

Salada is investing in plant upgrades for efficiency, quality and new products as it approaches seven decades of operation — with nine-month net profit up 40.6%.

Salada Foods Jamaica Limited is stepping up modernisation of its manufacturing plant as the company prepares to mark 70 years of operation — investing in efficiency, capacity and new product development.

Established in 1958, Salada is Jamaica’s largest coffee-processing plant and the only soluble coffee processor in the English-speaking Caribbean. Recent upgrades include packaging lines for better end-to-end integration, a new X-ray inspection system for quality control, and retooling to support specialty ginger and herbal infusions alongside Jamaica Mountain Peak coffee and teas.

“Our plant modernisation initiative remains underway as Salada approaches its 70th year of operation. The programme involves a strategic assessment and upgrade of various areas of the production process, which has been helping the company to improve quality, output, and the cost of goods sold,” management told shareholders.

Those investments are already showing in the numbers. For the nine months ended 30 June 2026, gross revenue rose 11.5% to J$1.28 billion, operating profit jumped 51.1% to J$215.1 million, and net profit increased 40.6% to J$168.5 million. Third-quarter net profit more than doubled to J$68.3 million.

General Manager Tamii Brown also highlighted product innovation, including Jamaica Mountain Peak Sorrel Hibiscus (launched October 2025), which has grown month on month and is now exported to the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and the wider Caribbean.

“Our consumers have welcomed it with open arms. Sorrel Hibiscus is also driving revenue as the product is increasingly being enjoyed outside the traditional festive season,” Brown said.
